Chip-equipped debit cards that are activated by a tap are super easy to use. They’re also easy to steal. Enter TheArticulate Clutch. The Kickstarter-sparked accessory is lined with a “special material” invented by Articulate to block the RFDI (radio-frequency identification) signals emitted by your card.
These signals can be intercepted by “electronic pickpockets” who use their own carefully concealed scanners to collect information just by crossing your path, then replicating your card to commit fraud.
The campaign has been a wild success. San Diego-based Articulate has already surpassed their $10,000 goal, with $12,500 collected as of press time. Retailing for $42 (USD) each, the clutches also boast such mini-innovations as vertical slots for your cards for easier access and a pocket tailored to the size of a standard smart phone.
Available in blue, aqua blue, yellow, red, black and beige, the clutch comes with both a detachable wrist strap and a chain shoulder strap. The straps can even be combined if that’s your style.
