We may count ourselves lucky to be Canadian, but Americans have one thing going for them: they just got the first official Pizza ATM. Although we’ve never been jealous of them before, we can honestly say that they definitely scored with this awesome machine. Students at Ohio’s Xavier University just got the best possible, cheesiest gift of their lives when the coolest vending machine on the planet landed in their school.
Come on, look at this bad boy! It looks like it belongs in an arcade. Or at the very least, a constant fixture on The Jetsons.
The ATM will serve up hot pies for 24 hours a day, seven days a week at just the touch of a couple buttons. All one has to do is choose the toppings using the touchscreen, hit a button, and within three minutes (!!!), they’ll receive a fresh-baked pizza. In a box. Shot out of a special pizza slot.
If you’re wondering how it all works, it’s magic. Actually, no, the machine has an internal convection oven that does all the magic.
And it’s priced just right at $9 USD (or at about $12 CAD) for a full 12-inch pizza. The machine can only handle making 70 pizzas as that’s how many are stored in it at one time, but it’ll probably need to be restocked on a daily basis since the only other pizza option available to students is a Domino’s.
According to school staffers and students, it’s not just convenient–it’s also delicious.
“It is the best pizza I’ve ever had, and I hate to admit that as a New Yorker,” Jennifer Paiotti, marketing director of XU’s auxiliary services, told WCPO Cincinnati. Damn, that must be some good ‘za considering she just risked being exiled from her home state.
In case you were wondering, the Pizza ATM has actually been around for a while. Invented by French company Paline, it’s been in Europe for 14 years. And counting.
Now the real question is: When’s Canada getting one? Sure, sure, Cincinnati’s just a short drive away, but so are any number of pizza chains. It should be noted the machine costs about $55,000. Even so, we think it’s a small price to pay for the convenience and coolness of this magical, mystical pizza-dispensing machine. Students at York and McMaster, get those petitions ready!
