It seems like just yesterday that The Queen and Duchess Kate were sitting together, having a laugh, chatting like old chums, but the last time these two have publicly had any real one-on-one time was in March 2012. That was ages ago! The two visited Leicester at the start of Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee tour that year because who better to kick off the festivities with than her granddaughter-in-law

And they seemed to be having a blast, no?

Technically, though, they weren’t alone. Aside from the other guests in attendance, Prince Philip was with them in Leicester; back then this outing was considered a big deal because it was the first time Kate didn’t have William by her side, but it was still a threesome. In any case, Philip must’ve felt a bit like a third wheel because the two women did just fine on their own.

So it’s been a long, long time coming, but these two finally decided to tend to royal duties as a duo, with no other royal in sight. The women were on-hand for the reopening of the newly renovated residence Bush House at King’s College and many were waiting to catch a glimpse of the royals as they arrived.

Just like during that outing in 2012, Her Maj wore pink — albeit a softer shade this time — while Kate opted for a more sombre grey and black. That’s right. She knows the only person who should stand out is The Queen.

Kate and The Queen looked to be having a fun time, similar to how Meghan and the Queen looked during their BFF day together.

Kate and Her Maj toured the facilities, then headed to the rooftop to enjoy a sweet view of London.

But things really got good once they wrapped up their visit. Kate and The Queen hopped into their car and wound down the day in the most perfect way. Under a blanket. Together. Really.

Her Maj took the rest of the day off and ditched Kate, who went on to visit London’s Foundling Museum, which works with artists, writers and musicians to develop learning programs. Considering Kate’s art history degree, it makes perfect sense that she was just announced patron of the museum.

More work for Kate means less work for The Queen, as she continues to lighten her load. Let’s just hope that’s not the last we see of these two together, though. Because a little girl time never hurt anyone. Now, if Liz, Kate and Meghan get together for an appearance, consider our lives complete.
