Meghan Markle who? We kid. Sort of. Because while she may have broken all kinds of ground when she married Prince Harry and became royalty, there’s another wedding about to happen, this time involving Queen Elizabeth‘s cousin, Lord Ivar Mountbatten, and his partner, James Coyle. That’s right, people, the British Royal Family is set to have their first-ever same-sex wedding. And it’s only 2018!

The Daily Mail reports that it was two years ago that Ivar caused quite the kerfuffle when he came out. It was revealed that throughout his 16-year marriage to Penny, with whom he shares three daughters, he struggled with his sexuality. He eventually found love with “gorgeous beast” Coyle, whom he met in the Swiss ski resort of Verbier.

Now, don’t think he regrets any of his time with Penny. Ivar still calls their wedding day “the best of my life,” and the two remain close, so much so that she will be the one walking him down the aisle.

“It was the girls’ idea,” Penny told the Mail. “It makes me feel quite emotional. I’m really very touched,” adding that she and James haven gotten on “from the first 10 seconds of meeting each other.”

She added: “What I don’t think Ivar realises is how much he has changed as a man since he came out. James is hugely responsible for that because he’s so much fun. Ivar is so much more relaxed these days. He’s so much kinder … He probably wasn’t even aware that by keeping his sexuality a secret it was really quite tormenting him. Now it’s out he’s a completely different person. Everybody says they’ve never seen him happier.”

Penny is clearly an amazing, understanding woman, whom Ivar describes as being very similar to James. “They’re [both] so caring and giving.”

Ivar added: “We really are a funny threesome,” though, just in case it needed clarification, “not in that way.”

While it’s as unconventional as it gets for the Royal Family, Ivar and Penny’s eldest daughter, Ella, begs to differ. “She said, ‘Oh Pap, it’s not a big deal. It’s so normal nowadays,'” Mountbatten said. “Of course that generation, they’re completely cool about the concept of this.”

While Princess Margaret and Prince Edward attended his wedding to Penny, Edward and wife Sophie Rhys-Jones won’t be attending this one.

“Sophie and Edward know of our plans and are really excited for us,” said Ivar. “Sadly they can’t come to the wedding. Their diaries are arranged months in advance and they’re not around, but they adore James. Everyone adores him.”

The wedding is scheduled for later this summer in the private chapel on Lord Ivar’s country estate in Devon. “We’ll be pronounced partners in marriage, but the ceremony itself will be very small,” revealed Ivar. “It’s just for the girls and close family and friends.” Just how it should be. Though if his cousin, Elizabeth, decided to make an appearance, we wouldn’t hate it.
