The royal wedding may have been the event of the year in jolly ole England, but that doesn’t mean there weren’t Canadian hand prints all over Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s big day. Sorry, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. New titles, who dis, right?
From Meghan’s super cute bridal party, to the guest list, to our very own homegrown member of the royal family, Canadians invaded the wedding of the year and brought the true north strong and free across the pond. It seems more than fitting for a member of the Commonwealth to be well represented among the monarchy. God save the Queen.
Meghan’s TV husband Patrick J. Adams attended the royal wedding with his wife and fellow actor Troian Bellisario. The Suits star is a native of Toronto.
Speaking of… Many of Meghan’s other Suits co-stars were invited to the wedding, including Sarah Rafferty, Rick Hoffman, Gabriel Macht, Gina Torres, Abigail Spencer and Jacinda Barrett. Although Adams is the only Canadian on the cast, the Bravo series is filmed in Toronto, so we’re making all the Suits stars honourary Canadians. That’s honourary with a ‘u.’
Sir Elton John and his husband, Canadian David Furnish, wore their best tails for Saturday’s ceremony. A close friend to the Royal Family and especially the late Princess Diana, Elton John is expected to perform at Meghan and Harry’s reception on Saturday night.
As one of Meghan’s closest friends, Jessica Mulroney along with her husband and etalk host Ben Mulroney were in attendance for the big day, with the Canadian couple getting a prime seat in the front row right behind Meghan during the touching ceremony.
The Mulroneys made the day a family affair, with their daughter Ivy acting as a bridesmaid for Meghan along with Princess Charlotte and Prince George.
Ivy looked beautiful in her white bridesmaid dresses, but it was twin brothers John and Brian who stole the show. Having the honour of riding in the car with Meghan and then carrying her train up the steps of St. George’s chapel, the boys looked ecstatic to be involved in the wedding of the year.
English actor Idris Elba was also excited to be invited to the royal wedding, where he was joined by his fiancé and former Miss Vancouver winner Sabrina Dhowre. The pair made their debut as a couple at the TIFF premiere of Molly’s Game in 2017.
And finally, Canadian Autumn Phillips, wife of Peter Phillips, Harry’s cousin, was also in attendance for the royal wedding. Oh Canada!
