In case you forgot, Cameron Diaz is a married woman. She and Benji Madden tied the knot at their home in January 2015, after a three-month engagement and five months of dating before that. That’s eight months in total, in case you missed that. Then married. Eh. Whatever works, right? Unlike a lot of quickie Hollywood marriages Cameron and Benji’s is still going strong, stronger than ever it seems.
Diaz was a guest on Andy Cohen‘s radio show, promoting her new book, Longevity. While the interview won’t air until Friday morning, some clips have come out, featuring a gushing–and we’re going to guess glowing– Cameron D.
“Nothing matters now that I have my husband,” Diaz told Cohen. “Like, that’s the thing, that’s how I know he’s my husband because no one compares.”
Cameron says people always told her “you just know when you know” about finding her perfect match and that was exactly what happened with her and Benji.
“I was always like, ‘What does that mean? What does that mean?’ Then I was like ‘Oh, I get it, you just know when you know, like you’re my husband.”
And according to Diaz, she knew right away, confessing that Madden caught her eye on two separate but equally memorable occasions.
“The first thing I saw when I first met my husband, I was like he’s hot!” she laughs. “We had just never been in the same circle, then I saw him like a year later, I saw him again, and I was like, wait a second, still hot.”
She recalled being introduced to Benji while at friends’ Nicole Richie and Joel Madden‘s house.
“Joel said, ‘Hey, can my brother come over?’ And I said, ‘Of course, it’s family, we’re having a barbecue’ and then he walked in the door and I was like … you! You!”
Aw. We bet Cameron’s eyes must’ve bugged out. But she had to know who Benji was if she was pals with Nicole and Joel. Joel and Benji are identical twins, after all.
Now, 15 months into married life and Diaz is still on cloud nine.
“Everything else just kind of like washes and slips away,” she says. “You realize like, ‘Oh right, this is what the real thing is, this is what real love is and this is what commitment and devotion is. This is the person that you build your life with, and for me, it’s like the rest of everything else just kind of dissolves.”
That’s nice, right? And if that wasn’t beautiful enough, Cam also dedicated her new book to Benji, writing, “I never knew what love was until I found you. How did I ever live without your love, your friendship, your brilliant mind, your genius sense of humor, and your enormous, loving, beautiful heart?”
She adds: “Thank you for being my best friend, my teacher, my partner in life. You inspire me every day with your courage and devotion. Thank you for all the support and encouragement in this book and everything in life. I love you forever and ever.”
Diaz’s past relationships have been well-documented over the years and it’s no coincidence that the one that sticks, the one that means the most, is the one we don’t see very often. Though, admittedly, we wouldn’t be upset if we saw more of Cameron and Benji together. Love this adorable pair.
