The Hills are alive with the sound of Natasha Bedingfield. The MTV reality series, a spin-off of Laguna Beach: The Real OC, is coming back to TV for a special reunion show 10 years after its premiere. Grab your pink suitcase and oversized sunglasses, it’s about to go down.
Airing for six seasons between 2006 and 2010, the reality series starred Lauren Conrad, Whitney Port, Heidi Montag, Audrina Patridge, Kristin Cavallari, Brody Jenner, and one of the greatest reality star villains of all time, Spencer Pratt.
Centred around the group of 20-somethings as they worked semi-hard to make it in the world of fashion, music, and business in L.A., The Hills was the ultimate guilty pleasure, with viewers tuning in each week to watch a show that defined the hashtag, #FirstWorldProblems.
A first look at the upcoming special has now been released (and subsequently removed), and features The Hills star-turned fashion designer Lauren Conrad in her Nancy Meyers-worthy home. Conrad says the upcoming special will allow the cast to reveal the truth behind some of the scripted moments from the series, saying, “So often we would say, if you knew the real story you would understand, and what I’d like to do is tell that story.”
Conrad left after Season 4, with her lead role replaced by her Laguna Beach nemesis, Kristin Cavallari. The series finale concluded with Cavallari and Hollywood rich kid Brody Jenner saying goodbye to one another as cameras panned out to reveal the two standing on a movie lot. The closing shot was a nod to fans that The Hills was indeed far from a documentary, but which parts of the series were in fact fabricated has still been largely up in the air. Until now.
Conrad promises the special will include secrets the cast has never talked about before, which we’re hoping includes an answer to these important questions:
What did Heidi do?
How many headbands did Lauren own?
What would things be like if she chose Vogue Paris over Jason?
How did she get the perfect mascara-to-crying ratio?
Like Spencer waiting for Heidi outside of the Bolthouse office, we’ll sit here all day in anticipation of the upcoming special.
Time to find out the secrets behind all that was unwritten.
The Hills: That Was Then, This Is Now airs Tuesday, August 2 at 10 pm on MTV.
