The world is becoming increasingly reliant on robots to aid us in our everyday lives — there’s hands-free driving and even the self-piloting plane on the horizon. So, it’s really no surprise that a restaurant has appeared in London in which diners are able to enjoy a meal without lifting a finger.
Thankfully, guests won’t have to worry about a culinary A.I. uprising or a mechanical killer armed with a spoon and bowl of Miso soup as the restaurant is staffed by good old-fashioned humans that will deliver your meal directly to your mouth.
The restaurant named Hands Off! hit the London culinary scene earlier in June. The concept? Staff feed each guest by hand and even hold up a straw to their lips, if thirsty.
If that sounds like your dream come true, and you’ve already opened up an inappropriate number of tabs in preparation for your descent into the dark web looking for the next cheap flight to England, I have bad news. The restaurant is a pop-up event and was available only from June 11 to 14. Better close out those tabs and go eat with your hands or whatever you prehistoric diners do.
Tickets cost about £20 Euro ($34 CAD) and proceeds go to charity. Those who attended the event were treated to a tasting menu that included nigiri and maki sushi, strawberry and chocolate mochi and even a mock duck pancake.
It is very probable that more restaurants in this vein will begin to surface in the coming years, maybe even in a permanent capacity. However, only time will tell if this will prove to be appealing to the masses as there are many diners who would prefer to avoid having a stranger’s fingers come into contact with their mouth.
Especially, if robots ever get involved.
