Get ready for some "Blinding Lights" because The Weeknd will be taking over one of the biggest stages in the world at the Pepsi Super Bowl LV Halftime Show live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Sunday, Feb. 7, 2021 (airing on CTV).

The Weeknd shared the exciting news of his upcoming performance at the halftime show on Twitter on November 12, writing, "performing on the iconic stage. see you 02/07/21."

While 2020 has not been any of our years (read: the pandemic)... The Weeknd is giving us something to look forward to in 2021. "We all grow up watching the world's biggest acts playing the Super Bowl and one can only dream of being in that position. I'm humbled, honoured and ecstatic to be the centre of that infamous stage this year," The Weeknd said in a press release.

The Weeknd will be the first Canadian performer to hit the Super Bowl stage since Shania Twain's performance in 2003. Oh Canada, we have two legends! This marks the second year of collaboration between Pepsi, the NFL and Jay-Z's entertainment company Roc Nation and they all say they're excited to bring The Weeknd "to the world's biggest stage for what is sure to be a transcendent performance."Jay-Z said that the "Starboy" singer has "introduced a sound all his own" and that the Canadian singer's "soulful uniqueness has defined a new generation of greatness in music and artistry." Beyoncé's husband added that 2021's Halftime Show is "going to be an extraordinary experience with an extraordinary performer."Brian Rolapp, NFL Chief Media and Business Officer, said that Halftime Show performances "have a history of excellence and creativity" and everyone looks forward to seeing what The Weeknd will bring to the stage.[video_embed id='2070917']RELATED: The Weeknd and Maluma team up for a remix of ‘Hawái’[/video_embed]Pepsi shared the news on Twitter, calling The Weeknd's talent "limitless" and saying he belongs "on the world's largest stage."

Last year the Super Bowl halftime show drew in more than 100 million viewers with Jennifer Lopez and Shakira's performance that paid homage to Latin culture. The pair promised a joint performance that would have an empowering message and they delivered. Shakira began the show with a medley of her hits including "She Wolf," "Empire" and "Whenever Wherever." Reggaeton superstar Bad Bunny joined Shakira on stage to perform his hit song with Cardi B and J Balvin, "I Like It," and her song with Maluma, "Chantaje."Shakira also sang her iconic song "Hips Don’t Lie" ahead of JLo taking the stage for her jaw-dropping performances of "Jenny From the Block," "Ain't That Funny" and "Get Right." Who could forget when JLo began to spin on a stripper pole on stage while singing "Waiting for Tonight"? J Balvin joined her on stage for "Qué Calor" and a mash-up of "Mi Gentle," "Love Don’t Cost A Thing" and "On The Floor."

The wildest part of it all was that some people did not like what they saw at the 2020 Super Bowl halftime show—1,312 people to be exact. The Federal Communications Commission received 1,312 complaints from viewers, some from parents who believed that their children were exposed to a “porno show” and others who said they felt the halftime performance “encouraged sex trafficking.” Might we suggest making use of the "off" button if you don't like what's on TV?We can only hope that The Weeknd brings Colombian singer Maluma onstage during the show for a mesmerizing performance of "Hawái Remix” or Beyoncé for a "6 Inch" moment from their collab on Lemonade.NFL football lives on TSN, CTV, CTV2, RDS and TSN Radio this fall as Bell Media is the exclusive television broadcast partner of the NFL in Canada. SUPER BOWL LV will air live from Raymond James Stadium in Tampa on Sunday, Feb. 7 on CTV.
