Wavy, wet hair that looks like you’ve wandered straight out of the ocean, Bay Watch styles, is undeniably sexy. But there’s a time and place for everything. Like, wet hair on a beach, for example. But on a red carpet? We’re not totally convinced, though we are curious after watching Kim Kardashian parade effortlessly in front of the cameras in a ‘do that was equal parts wet rat and bombshell.
Now, we’re certain she wouldn’t have had difficulty finding someone to follow her around with a spray bottle all night at the VMAs. Someone to spritz her long dark locks every few secs, keeping it glistening and perfect (a fan, a sister, a child, or a husband perhaps). But this isn’t the method Kim employed.
No, her hairstylist Michael Silva used a slew of products to keep her strands looking shiny and moist during the entire evening. Pretty impressive, right? (A press release went out to us lucky media, so we know exactly what Kimmy K had rubbed and brushed and sprayed into her head.) Silva wanted her locks to be “a continuation of summery, beach beauty.” And the wet look certainly adheres to that.
Before stepping out on the red carpet, Kim took to Twitter to ask her fans which colour hair she should wear. (Though she didn’t ask them to rate how wet her hair should look… and we kind of wish she had.)
What color hair should I do for the #VMAs ????

Silva used Kendra Professional products, which, yeah, have celeb price tags attached to them.
An oil, a texturizing mist, and the brand’s new Platinum Snail CC Creme—it’s “enriched with snail essence,” according to its website, and costs $25 for just 2.5 ounces—were all layered in Kimmy’s long locks.
But the key to getting these beach waves in the first place? A diffuser. (If you’re not familiar, a diffuser is that funky looking add-on that attaches to the front of most hair dryers, and helps with that semi-curled look.)
So, to recap: a diffuser will get you the lazy waves, and loading up on an oil will give you Kimmy’s wet look. Try Moroccanoil’s original treatment, which smells just as good as it works. Loading your locks up with a leave-in protein-rich mask, like Shoppers’ Life brand, can also do the trick. And if you’d rather shop in your kitchen cupboard: coconut oil. Seriously!
While we’re not totally convinced that we want to rock the wet look at the office (or the park, or at home, or anywhere, really), we’re certainly curious what this actually feels like. Kim, send us a tweet about the texture!
