There are some cool moms out there — but Doria Ragland takes it to a whole other level. While so many of Meghan Markle‘s family members have yapped to the press about anything and everything, then got mad at her for not being invited to the wedding, they could have learned a thing or 20 from Doria, who kept her mouth shut, her pride obvious, and has rightfully been giving the royal VIP treatment like the queen that she is.
On Friday evening, Meghan and Doria were seen arriving at Cliveden House Hotel, where she stayed before the wedding, having just left the Queen at Windsor Castle. But it was the big day itself that proved not only does Meghan deserve the attention of the world, Doria does as well.
We saw her often throughout the broadcast of the nuptials and marvelled at how she held her composure — but she wasn’t a robot. You could feel the excitement, the anxiousness, the emotion, the love coming from her. Sure, she broke, like many parents do, as she teared up during the ceremony, but overall, tears included, she was a class act throughout, proving that old adage true: like mother, like daughter.
Doria did what she could to ensure that all eyes were on her daughter, as she wore an understated pale green day coat and dress with white floral embroidery by Oscar de la Renta, and a small hat by Stephen Jones, but despite her attempts, people couldn’t help but throw Ms. Ragland a little love. OK, a LOT of love.
With all due respect to #HarryandMeghan, the best part of this #RoyalWedding, the most historic and the most symbolic, is the mother of the bride: Doria Ragland. pic.twitter.com/nl9NuUwLbq

I’m sorry but I am just in love with Doria Ragland – the love and pride in her eyes, her grace and cool under considerable pressure, her vulnerable and beautiful humanity standing out like a lighthouse in a sea of royalty, entitlement and privilege ❤❤❤ #RoyalWedding

How I admire Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mother. She’s there all alone – not another friend or child in sight – and has represented her daughter (and America, incidentally!) with 100% dignity and class. Lovely.

Prince Charles takes the hand of Doria Ragland, Meghan Markle’s mother, as they move from the Quire for the signing of the registers. https://t.co/9c7Q1NnHMS #RoyalWedding pic.twitter.com/rKpXjT6AIF

That was a really genuine smile from Prince Charles as he took Doria’s hand. I love that. #RoyalWedding

I just want to know what Doria and Charles are talking about because they seem to have become buddies and I kind of love it. #RoyalWedding

I know this is Meghan’s day, but can we take a moment to appreciate Doria?
She raised a woman who is revolutionizing the British monarchy as we watch. Bishop Curry’s sermon alone, is a big deal.
I hope she knows how much everyone appreciates her. #RoyalWedding pic.twitter.com/GEcXq4MIZi

Doria looked absolutely beautiful. I woke up at 3am LA time to see all of it, but mostly to salute the #MotherOfTheBride. We SO see you, Mam 🙌🏾 pic.twitter.com/7aJeRgkFqL

2018.
The look of a mom but also an American black mother who just witnessed her daughter become Duchess of Sussex. 😢 So happy for Doria Ragland. #HarryandMeghan #MeghanMarkle
The world will change even if there are those who don’t want it to. ❤ pic.twitter.com/8U1QbbW7Hb— nicki 🤓 (@nickiknowsnada) May 19, 2018
Swoon. We all could use a little more Doria in our lives. We’re totally fine if she wants to hang out in the U.K. longer, and with the recent news that she quit her job, perhaps she will. We might not necessarily deserve her but we’ll take all we can get. Congrats to Meghan and Harry, but also? Ecstatic for Doria.
