It’s been a relatively peaceful, alien-free couple of decades since Jeff Goldblum and Will Smith destroyed the pack of space invaders that tried to take over the planet in 1996’s Independence Day. But apparently the extraterrestrials have been plotting a ‘resurgence,’ and earth is going to get blown up all over again on the big screen.
The first trailer for the long awaited sequel Independence Day: Resurgence has finally arrived, and judging by the gargantuan space crafts and planetary property damage, we’re going to need Goldblum’s assistance more than ever.
From the trailer, it appears that the aliens were none too pleased with the results of their last attempted invasion and have nothing but revenge on their minds. The UFOs look bigger, their technology looks better and look out, they seem to be a whole lot angrier!
Goldblum’s co-lead Will Smith has been replaced by Liam Hemsworth this time around, but several other original cast members have returned, like Judd Hirsch, Bill Pullman, and Vivica A. Fox.
Brent Spiner (that’s Data to you, Star Trek fans), Charlotte Gainsbourg, Jessie Usher, Maika Monroe and Sela Ward have all joined Hemsworth as newbies to the franchise.
Independence Day: Resurgence hits theatres on June 24. Check out the trailer above.
