Well this should melt your heart. If you thought the Frozen trend was going away anytime soon, you may be second guessing yourself this morning. Not only is the story of Elsa one of the most self-empowering stories of true love Disney has bestowed upon us in recent times, but if fans have anything to say about it the characters may feature the first LGBTQ lead, as well.
Now that’s certainly something to celebrate.
It all started with the #GiveElsaAGirlfriend hashtag that surfaced on Twitter over the weekend when user @lexi4prez advocated for the story line in the upcoming 2018 sequel. It didn’t take long for others to notice and get on board with the idea, and before long it was a global campaign.

To me, a princess from the LGBT community is exactly the kind of character Disney would want to immortalise next! #GiveElsaAGirlfriend

#GiveElsaAGirlfriend because sometimes a princess should be able to fall in love with another princess.

Obviously, this would be the first Disney princess to be openly gay, which would be a huge step forward for the LGBTQ community and in teaching kids that it’s okay to be yourself — no matter who your true self is.
Given that Elsa is one of the few Disney characters to NOT marry a prince by the end of the film, the move could make total sense. Unfortunately, who knows if there’s actually enough time for the creatives behind the story to change it up at this point in the process. Sure, 2018 seems like an awfully long time away, but animated films take a lot longer to produce than regular ones.
Either way, we’re hoping the haters just “Let it Go.” Because we kind of love the idea too.
