You read that right! The Hurawalhi Island Resort on the Maldives opens this year and features the world’s largest underwater restaurant, called 5.8 Undersea Restaurant. Since the restaurant rests 5.8 meters below a beautiful lagoon. Okay, so ‘world’s largest’ sits sixteen people, but it’s still pretty amazing!

The record-breaking restaurant has been in the works for a while now–it takes a long time to plan and build something this wonderful! The restaurant itself was built in New Zealand, and then brought over by cargo ship to the Maldives. If this sounds familiar already it’s because the Maldives are already home to the world’s largest underwater restaurant. Talk about one-upping yourself!

Oh yeah, and it’s going to be a 5-star restaurant, in case being the world’s largest underwater restaurant wasn’t enough to make you want to go! One of the chefs has even cooked for Rod Stewart, Neil Young, and the The Rolling Stones, so you’ll be eating celebrity-worthy food under the sea. Sounds like just about the coolest thing ever. All the food for the restaurant is prepared on land and brought down to you by staff via an underwater spiral staircase. (We’re glad we’re not taking that staircase everyday.)

By the way, the restaurant’s for adults only, so there won’t be any kids yelling about the cool ‘fishies’ overhead. Well.. unless you’re the one yelling about how cool they are (not that we’d blame you). Dining with the Indian Ocean all around you is pretty amazing!

If dining isn’t enough for you, the restaurant space is also available for use by honeymooners and for weddings. YOU CAN GET MARRIED UNDER THE SEA. That basically means you can be a mermaid (tail not included).

The resort doesn’t open until November 2016; but that just gives you time to plan your trip.
