The thing about fashion is sometimes we’re left flabbergasted at what’s considered stylish. And don’t get us wrong, our mantra is essentially you do you. But there are some pieces so awful, so terrible, that we just want to throw up our arms and shout “Stop it!”
The latest WTF moment in style comes in the form of a $1,311 Gucci loafer, lined in kangaroo fur. The shoe is considered the “it” item for fall (Vogue says it’s “head over heels“), and apparently demand is so high that some sizes are back-ordered until October.
Think about that for a second. This hideous, kangaroo-fur lined slipper, which retails for $1,311, is back-ordered. Oh, and you should know that this loafer is unisex. This shoe, with kangaroo fur that will literally drag on a dirty street – picking up detritus, garbage, whatever – is for both men and women.
If you were say, crazy, and didn’t think this particular shoe was aesthetically enough for you, there’s an upgrade that you can get by special order. Except these upgrades aren’t lined with kangaroo fur – they’re made entirely of goat fur. And they cost $2,500.
Sure, these things (we’re having a hard time calling them shoes, because they look like Cousin It’s baby) are probably really comfortable, and you probably wouldn’t hate lounging around in your home with them on. But just buy a pair of slippers, not some $1,311 to $2,732 version that’s essentially masquerading as street shoes.
