Parents have enough to freak out about when their baby enters their world on or near its delivery date, but almost nothing can prepare a mom- or dad-to-be for when their little one arrives way before the expected due date. For preterm births, the number one priority is getting baby in fighting form and weight, but that could take some time. So Huggies created a diaper that protects preemies during those precious and uncertain early days, giving parents one less thing to worry about.
Huggies partnered with nurses working in neonatal intensive care units and neonatal therapists to come up with the perfect product, and the Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diaper was the result. Specially created for babies weighing less than two pounds, they’re designed to protect their skin and promote healthy growth and development.
“The diaper features gentle, specially-sized fasteners and a narrow, absorbent pad to provide a flexible fit so that baby can be comfortably positioned in a fetal tuck, with arms and legs close to the body,” the company said in a press release. “The soft, smooth liner and gentle leg gathers offer leakage protection without irritating fragile, underdeveloped skin.”
According to the World Health Organization, an estimated 15 million babies are born before 37 weeks — a scary number but that’s fewer than 1.4 per cent of babies that enter the world. Huggies’ new diapers might serve only a small population of babies, but they’re going to make a huge difference.
