Every Canadian knows that the mighty beaver isn’t to be trifled with.
For the poor souls who don’t know, the encounter often goes something like this:
That’s why when an RCMP officer noticed a beaver crossing a portion of the Trans-Canada Highway near Victoria, B.C., he did the smart thing and halted traffic to allow it to pass. But despite his best efforts, something about the Mountie must have rubbed the animal the wrong way, because it crossed all the way to the shoulder of the road and then suddenly refused to leave.
And so began an epic standoff for the ages.
In a bid to scare the animal off the road, the officer hopped back inside of his cruiser and drove it up to the animal–twice. On both occasions, the beaver stood its ground, offering nothing but death stares and hisses.
“We found it quite amusing, it was pretty iconic that there was this RCMP officer trying to get a beaver out of the road,” Const. Andy Dunstan said to CTV News.
Even when the officer turned on his sirens, the beaver just sat there, refusing to be disrespected.
Eventually, however, once the animal felt that its point had been made, it did turn and leave on its own accord.
So remember, folks: Never mess with a beaver. You can watch the entire standoff in the video above.
