Woo hoo! It was just announced that FOX has renewed the long running animated series for at least another two seasons. And now it looks like Homer, Marge and the kids are gearing up to set a new TV record.

After 572 episodes (wow), The Simpsons is already the longest-running American sitcom and the longest-running American animated program of all time. With two more seasons already lined up, the show is guaranteed to reach 625 episodes, just ten shy of Gunsmoke’s record for the longest running scripted prime-time TV series ever. So why stop there?

After season 27 and 28, we can bet with near certainty that the Springfield crew will return for at least a shortened 29th season to set a new benchmark in prime-time television history. But knowing The Simpsons’ track record, there’s a good chance that the show will just continue for another 30 seasons to entertain our children’s children.

If you love The Simpsons, this is very exciting news. If you’re tired of them, don’t have a cow, man!

Watch The Simpsons weekdays at 5:30PM ET on Much.
