We’re trying to be very Hakuna Matata about this news, we really are. But now that it’s been confirmed a live-action Lion King movie is in the works over at Disney, it’s kinda hard to feel the love tonight.
Don’t get us wrong; we loved the original movie to pieces. As in, had every song memorized, sang at the top of our lungs, cried when Mufasa died type of love. That’s kind of why we’re so concerned. With the rounds of Disney films becoming live-action fare nowadays, we have to ask: where do we draw the line?

To be fair, Cinderella was great, and we’re super excited to see Emma Watson as Belle in Beauty and the Beast. But you know, those films involved actual humans in addition to animated characters. Lion King is all about animals; not one single human appeared throughout the entire film.
It helps to know that director Jon Favreau is on board. He did a great job with The Jungle Book. And according to reports, he plans on using the same CGI/live-action combo with a green screen to bang this one out. Mind you, even though The Jungle Book was wildly successful and there’s already talks of a sequel, the main character in that movie was an actual human being. So… there’s that.
Excited for my next project 🦁👑

One saving grace is knowing that the songs we know and love will be incorporated into the movie, which means we’ll probably have “I Just Can’t Wait to Be King” and all the other classics stuck in our heads again in no time at all.
Considering how successful the original film was (it is one of the top-grossing animated films of all time), we’re sure this new movie is going to be pretty well received in the long run too. Because even if we have our doubts, we really can’t wait to check it out.
The #LionKing live action reboot is happening and I can’t contain myself. Too many childhood memories! 😁
