For some, he’s the nerd who got the hot girl on the riding lawn mower in Can’t Buy Me Love. For others, he was the perfect guy Reese Witherspoon rejected in Sweet Home Alabama. But for most of us, Patrick Dempsey was and will forever be remembered for Grey’s Anatomy‘s Derek “McDreamy” Shepherd, may he rest in peace.
But looks like Dempsey is returning to the big screen. His Grey’s exit is still being petitioned by die-hard fans but Patrick isn’t looking back. Deadline is reporting that he’s already lined up his next gig — and it’s a biggie.
The upcoming movie Bridget Jones’s Baby will have Renee Zellweger and Colin Firth reprising their roles from the previous flicks, Bridget Jones’s Diary and Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason. But with Hugh Grant‘s charming cad out of the picture, Mark Darcy needs a new rival to woo the titular character. And who better than someone who literally makes women swoon?
The first two films were based on Helen Fielding’s books but according to Deadline, the upcoming third instalment was inspired by Fielding’s columns, not by Bridget Jones: Mad About the Boy. Thank goodness since in that book (spoiler alert!!!!!) Mark, whom Bridget marries and has kids with, dies.
The perfect post-Grey’s role for Dempsey? Heck, yeah! Bridget Jones may have been able to turn down Daniel Cleaver but McDreamy is a whole different ball game.
