The new Star Trek movie looks like it’s going to be IN-TENSE. Naturally, Kirk is questioning who he is, things are exploding and there are aliens around (although, aren’t the humans technically alien if they’re on somebody else’s planet?). Also, the cast of Chris Pine (heart eyes!), Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho and Simon Pegg is looking veeery fine. Plus we got a little glimpse of Kirk’s dad who we met in the first movie, played by a little-known actor by the name of Chris Hemsworth (seriously, why can we only ever get two Chrises at a time? Bring in Evans and Pratt to round out the quartet).
No Cumberbatch this time, but the movie looks amazing anyway. Unfortunately for the cast though, they were upstaged by someone who wasn’t even on screen. That’s right, ladies and gentleman, that heavenly voice you hear in the background track is Queen RiRi with her new single ‘Sledgehammer’ and we can’t get enough.
As if Star Trek needed help being more popular or emotionally wrecking (remember when they killed Spock and then Kirk?), they called up Rihanna for a song with the power of a 007 theme. Can’t you just see Daniel Craig fading in and out of focus and darting in and out of shadows to this song? Are we thinking Oscar contender?
Recording for movies isn’t really something Rihanna has been known to do and we have no idea why. This song is amazing. If there are more Star Trek movies after Beyond we’re going to need her to write for those too. No exceptions.
Check out the song on its own without interruptions by Chris Pine & Co.
