Like any great mixed drink, there are certain products that we layer into our hair that simply work better together than on their own. Since winter is just around the cornet, we’re all about to experience the hair issues that come along with it.

The Kit’s Beauty Director Rani Sheen recommends some of her favourite hair product cocktails for the cold season ahead.

TO TREAT DRY, DAMAGED HAIR: NOURISHING OIL + DEEP TREATMENT MASK
A nourishing oil and a deep treatment mask is what you want to do for dry, damaged hair. I like the combination of Christophe Robin Regenerating Plant Oil with Rare Prickly Pear Seed Oil and Pantene Pro-V 3 Minute Miracle Repair & Protect Deep Conditioner. In the shower, mix a few pumps of oil with a glob of the deep conditioning mask in your hand and slather the mixture allover. Put a shower cap over top and let it marinate in the steam while you wash your face, shave your legs, etc. Rinse and enjoy your newly hydrated, shiny hair.

TO GIVE LIMP HAIR TEXTURE THAT LASTS: PRIMER SPRAY + SALT SPRAY + THICKENING STRONG HOLD HAIRSPRAY
Three sprays are better than one! Start with a detangler like Garnier Moisture Lock 10-in-1 Rescue for a little moisture and to comb out any knots. Follow up with a texturizing salt spray like Herbivore Sea Mist for that gritty beachy texture. And then finish with a strong hold hairspray like KMS Hair Stay Firm Finishing Spray to seal the style. Or—spray them all at once for a Charlie’s Angels kind of experience!

TO DEFINE & MOISTURIZE THICK, CURLY HAIR: CURL GEL + COCONUT OIL
Curls crave both serious definition and intense moisture, which can be difficult to find in a single product. Curl gel plus coconut oil gives the perfect combination of separation and deep nourishment. My recommendation is Ouai Curl Jelly and Conscious Coconut Coconut Oil. Mix the two products in your hand and apply to wet hair (the wetter the better!). From there, you can twist and separate your curls and encourage their natural pattern and diffuse or air dry.

TO STOP STATIC IN ITS TRACKS: STYLING CREAM + TEXTURIZING SPRAY
The root cause of static is the drier air so you want to add moisture with a rich styling cream like Oribe Straightaway Smoothing Blowout Cream. But to stop hair from becoming too silky and flat, mist a texturizing spray like Aveda Texture Tonic right on top. The slight hold from the spray helps tame staticky flyaways.

TO BOOST & DEFINE FINE, FLAT HAIR: MOUSEE + SERUM
Use mousse, which contains alcohol, to give your hair a lift for oomph and volume; I like Got2B Volumaniac Bodifying Mousse. Then you want to use a light serum like Revlon Professional Brightastic Styling Primer & Anti-Frizz Shine Serum to add shine, reduce frizz and give you some definition. If using a thick mousse, you can mix the two products, but if it’s thinner and airier, use the mousse first and the serum right after.
