Starbucks giveth, and Starbucks taketh away. No sooner did the US coffee giant launch their jazzy new colour-changing reusable tumblers, did they completely sell out. And if you were after one to ‘gram your warm weather fresh cold brew, then you might want to think again… or have over $1000 to spare.
Because of course, some people out there took full advantage, with sets being resold on sites like Etsy and eBay for the hefty price tags of $27 per cup ($20 USD), all the way up to a frankly ludicrous $1197 ($888 USD) for the bunch (we’re not sure what’s more absurd, that someone would think to sell at that price… or that someone’s willing to buy, but hey, we know better than to argue with caffeinated online sellers).
Either way, the adorable 24 oz-sized cups, which change colour with the addition of ice, come in a range of five colours, and originally sold at a reasonable $23 ($16.95 USD) for the set. With mix and match-coloured lids and straws, the cups create a striking ombre effect – the rose one turns coral red; the yellow, an emerald green; the light blue, a cobalt blue; apricot becomes tangerine; and an arctic blue turns raspberry pink. Mmm, even the colours sound delicious.

The line, which is limited to North American locations for now, is the latest move by Starbucks to encourage more eco-friendly coffee-consuming habits. Indeed, any purchase made with a reusable cup is discounted by ten cents… which is certainly no disincentive to buying the new multi-coloured beauties.
As for the lucky peeps who managed the nab the limited quantity whilst they were in stock, they’ve not been shy about publicizing their coffee escapades – a quick Instagram search of the hashtag #colorchangingcups brings up no fewer than 800 posts – and they only launched eight days ago.
But if you’re frothing at the mouth for your magically transforming cups, fret no more – Starbucks just confirmed they’ll have these babies back soon for the summer months, and plan to continually restock until fall. So as long as you move quick, you should be able get your paws on your favourite colour. Phew – in that case, we’ll see you soon on the ‘gram.
