Even though countless studies and research have proven distracted driving to be incredibly dangerous, it’s something many Canadians are guilty of on a regular basis.

In fact, in Ontario alone, someone is injured by a distracted driver every 30 minutes. That’s why the province is releasing a new PSA warning people of the dangers of checking their phones behind the wheel. Because by the time many people learn their lesson, it’s already too late.

The ads, set to hit televisions Thursday, show an all-too common scenario: a young man is driving on a busy road when he receives a text message. But the second he takes his eyes away from the street, he gets T-boned and winds up paralyzed in the hospital. It’s a grim view of how your whole life can completely change in just seconds, all because of one poor decision.

And even if you’re lucky enough not to crash your car, the fine for distracted driving in Ontario starts at $490 along with three demerit points. So do yourself a favour and check out the video above. Hopefully, it’ll put an end to this problem once and for all.
