If you’ve ever fantasize about winning the lottery, you probably picture yourself quitting your job the first chance you get and hopping on a plane to some exotic, remote island where you can sip your pina coladas in peace. But when Canadian Robert Goertzen actually won the lotto 6/49 ($21.9 million) he woke up the next day and thought “I can’t wait to go to work!”
Yeah, it’s inconceivable that someone would choose to, you know, go back to their regular old job after becoming an overnight multi-millionaire, but Goertzen, a Kelowna, B.C. resident, assures everyone that he and his girlfriend are perfectly happy where they are.
“Up at five. Made my breakfast and out the door. 5:40 [a.m.] on the road,” said Goertzen, who’s a heavy equipment instructor.
We might think he’s crazy for wanting to stick around, but he has a good reason. Geortzen says his boss was always there for him through trying times and doesn’t want to abandon his team.
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m going to take longer holidays,” he said to CTV News. “That’ll happen. But I’m going to be here. This is my job.”
Alright, that’s a good enough reason, don’t you think?
