What if you closed your eyes, went to sleep and then woke up to images of you all over the Internet? In 2015, it’s certainly a terrifying proposition. And if you’re plus-size model Ruby Roxx, it happened to you. The model was shocked to find a now-defunct fat-shaming Facebook community called Project Harpoon had seriously Photoshopped one of her photos to make her look very skinny.
But she wouldn’t let it stand. According to Roxx, “They don’t know if they have a thyroid condition, if they’re completely healthy. They could even be running marathons.” And yet the group left captions like “from a depressed chub to an elegant fox.” While bleak, Roxx continued in her crusade to make her haters pay. She contacted Facebook to get the page shut down, and she was successful. Unfortunately, the story continues, because the group keeps popping up under new names. We applaud women like Ruby Roxx and Tess Holliday, who have no issues with how they look. We can only wish that these bizarre vigilante groups will eventually mind their own business.
