Famous or not, a fresh haircut or new hair colour can completely change someone’s appearance. Ever accidentally snubbed your neighbour while you were both dragging out the trash bins because her once long, golden locks had been changed to shoulder-length and red? Nope, not a mistress, just Same Old Sally sporting a wicked new look.
Mistaking someone IRL may be shocking, but this Canadian celebrity transformation is going to blow your mind, even more so than your neighbour’s new look did. First, take a closer look at the above black and white photo of a woman wearing a cropped haircut and glasses. Anything familiar about her? Probably not, unless she opens her mouth to sing about how Ironic life can be…
The star in question is none other than Canadian crooner Alanis Morissette.
Yes, the same Alanis Morissette who’s had curly brown locks down to her waist since forever. This is the 1998 version of the Ottawa-native that’s forever ingrained in our heads:
But, 20 years later, we meet New Alanis:
The short locks suit her well and, really, there isn’t anything not to love about the cropped cut. It’s just that she’s looked a certain way for decades, and the new style will take a bit of getting used to.
If Alanis ever needs to go incognito to avoid to avoid the mob or the CRA or whatever, simply switching up her signature hair and popping on a pair of glasses is proving to be an incredibly effective way to fly under the radar. Though now we know what she looks like with a pixie cut and plastic frames, so she’ll need to rethink any potential disguises — fake moustache, perhaps?
The 43-year-old tried the platinum blonde look earlier this year, but perhaps the harsh chemicals were too much for her strands to handle, prompting her to make the dramatic chop.
Alanis has been spending time in New York as of late, where she’s been preparing for the premiere of her upcoming musical, Jagged Little Pill (the show runs May 5 to June 30, 2018 at the American Repertory Theater in Cambridge, Massachusetts). And now that she’s got such short hair, she can show off multiple earrings, like this collection of on-point little pills.
Alanis, don’t be surprised if we love you for all that you are. We couldn’t help it — especially with this adorbs new hair style — it’s all your fault.
