You might call this the boss of all tardy letters. If ever an honour were bestowed upon such things, that is.

At any rate, we think one New York father certainly deserves the title after we saw the note he sent to his 12-year-old daughter’s teacher explaining why she wasn’t on time for class one day. Turns out the girl, Isabelle, and her seven-year-old sister Sarah had been to the Bruce Springsteen concert the night before, and were a little behind the next morning after he played for three-and-a-half hours.

The dad, doing what any responsible parent might do, decided that honesty is the best policy.

He certainly isn’t the first person in the world to refer to Springsteen as God, but it’s a nice little finishing touch, don’t you think? How could any teacher be upset with that? Besides, what’s a kid more likely to remember years from now: saying the pledge of allegiance and going over last night’s homework one random morning, or the night she spent with her family at a Springsteen concert?

Exactly. Sometimes you just gotta weigh the life experiences against the practical ones. And be sure to write a pretty groovy note the next morning to explain yourself just in case.

Because who wants to pass up on this?
