As you probably already know, North Carolina has travelled back to a time when discrimination was acceptable. The Republicans of the state passed a bill in March (after every Democratic senator walked out of the vote) that overrides any former ordinances that protected LGBTQ people from discrimination, as well as adding into the mix the banning of transgender people from certain bathrooms.
Corporations have pulled their business from the state and musicians are cancelling their N.C. tour stops. And one dad is tackling the issue head-on. Steve Rudner, a dad and attorney in Texas who also happens to be on the board of directors for Equality Texas, had something to say about the discrimination North Carolina is allowing. Because the laws there could be going to his state. And he’s not happy about it, as you can see below:
We saw a quote just the other day that went something like this: “It’s as much about bathrooms as it was about water fountains.” Poetic, right? And telling. Discrimination of any kind is wrong and the fact that North Carolina has enshrined it into law is just shameful.
So more quotes like that and awesome people like Rudner, please. Wouldn’t the world be a much better place if there were more compassionate and open-minded and supportive people around?
