If your name is Elizabeth Gallagher, boy have you hit the jackpot.
Toronto man Jordan Axani, 28, says he booked the trip of a lifetime with his girlfriend in March. The plan was for the couple to depart from New York in December, travelling across Europe and Asia with stops in Milan, Paris, Bangkok and New Delhi, before arriving back in Canada for Jan. 8.
Unfortunately (or fortunately, depending on how you look at it), the couple split, and Axani was left with two tickets for a fully-booked trip. Not wanting to give up on the experience, he took to user-generated site Reddit with his interesting proposal.
Axani is looking for a Canadian with the same name as his ex-girlfriend, so that he can give away one of the tickets. He said changing the name on them would be difficult, and because the flights are spread out through so many different airlines, it’s not worth the pain of returning them.
“Anyone familiar with with the archaic system that is modern air travel will know that a name change on a ticket is damn near impossible,” Axani wrote. “Moreover, the flights were purchased during a massive blow-up on Priceline and were frankly so cheap and on so many different airlines that they’re not worth the headache or money to cancel.”
The best part about his offer? You don’t even have to spend the trip with Axani, if you don’t want to. While he admitted that he wouldn’t mind having a travel companion, he added “really the only thing I ask for is that you enjoy this trip and that it bring you happiness.” It’s worth noting, however, that no hotels or trains have been booked, so if you choose to fly solo you’ll be “on your own, bucko.”
Here is his full list of conditions:
- You must have a Canadian passport
- You must be named Elizabeth Gallagher
- You’re sane, smart and (hopefully) interesting
- You’ll pay it forward someday
Axani says he’s been flooded with requests from Elizabeth Gallaghers to take on the free trip, but hasn’t made a decision yet. He also hasn’t announced how he will make the big choice. Either way, you can still email him at firstname.lastname@example.org if you wanted to throw your hat in the ring.
