It was just one of those regular seeming days; a woman wanted to get rid of her dryer on a buy-and-sell site. A simple task, one would think. Take a photo of it, craft a couple of lines to attract buyers and hope the ad gets some bites. The thing is, some things aren’t always as easy as they sound. In fact, they can be downright terrifying. Because even the most mundane thing can quickly escalate into danger — all because of gender.

Twitter user Sara Suze shared a perfect example of why women always need to keep their guard up, keys between their knuckles if they’re walking alone, and phones close with finger on the emergency button. Just in case something like this happens.

What began as a simple ad quickly changed to a “How do I keep myself safe?” situation.

Things went from bad to worse in a flash.

Then much, much worse. Absolutely bone-chilling, actually.

There’s those initial feelings of pure and utter disgust, like, you motherf*cker, how DARE you. But then the fear sunk in. As did survival mode.

Sara then used her tweets, which have since gone viral, to make a public service announcement to men everywhere.

But Suze’s story wasn’t done. She updated to tweet that the man showed up at her house later that night, drunk. This time her husband was home to answer the doorbell but what happens when it’s just her or her and their four-year-old? The police have been called but now she’s terrified in her own home. All she wanted to do was sell a dryer!

And despite all that, her baring her soul and revealing her fears and shame and anger, not to mention all the precautions and assessments she made before all this even began, there were STILL men out there trying to tell her she did wrong. Mansplaining her terror in her own home! Sigh. Some get it; others never will.
