If you’re ever attending a glitzy awards ceremony and panic when you’re unexpectedly called up in front of some of Hollywood’s finest to accept a major prize, there’s no need to fear. Just follow Silicon Valley star T.J. Miller’s lead.
Last night at the fifth annual Critics’ Choice TV Awards in Beverley Hills, the HBO star was completely floored when he won ‘Best Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series.’ Miller thought he had no shot at taking home the prize, and his lack of preparedness to hit the podium led to perhaps the greatest award acceptance speech of all time.
Miller took the stage to accept his award with a mouth full of food and declared, “I thought I was gonna lose, so I ate a lot.” He then proceeded to struggle with the mic and admitted in brutally honest fashion that, “I would say awards are for children, because children need a tangible representation of their achievement, whereas adults should settle for the respect and admiration of their peers.”
He then went on to casually thank the Silicon Valley creators and his family, called his award a “crystal thing,” and shouted out Julia Louis-Dreyfus just because they made eye-contact. Why not?
After thanking his wife, he informed the crowd, “yea, I didn’t write a f***** speech.” It was hilariously epic.
