We know you don’t always follow a recipe when you cook. There’s something incredibly liberating about just throwing things into a pot or bowl and inventing something all by yourself (we swear we’re not lazy), amiright?

But baking is an entirely different story. When it comes to making cookies, a recipe is a science. The different amounts and types of flour, baking powder, sugar, eggs and salt you add have the biggest impact on the final result. Heck, a teaspoon of baking powder can be the difference between a huge cookie and a tiny cookie. Even the amount of time you bake them for can become catastrophic if you leave them in the oven for too long. And once you burn them, you may as well scrap them.
