If the reports are true and Queen Elizabeth is completely disregarding Prince Harry and Meghan Markle‘s request for charity donations instead of traditional wedding gifts, then they will have a house waiting for them. Her Majesty is reportedly giving the couple York Cottage on her Sandringham Estate. That’ll take them miles away from their current place in Kensington Palace and into the country where they’ll be near the Cambridges‘ Anmer Hall (gifted to Will and Kate by the Queen after their 2011 wedding).

But Harry and Meghan aren’t heading to Norfolk just yet. The Daily Mail reports that York Cottage will require extensive renovations over the next year, so for the time being, the couple have found a place to rent. That’s right — rent.

In spite of all the properties the Queen owns, Harry and Meghan will live in a cottage on the Great Tew Estate in Oxfordshire. Locals told the Mail that “heavy security measures” including cameras and gates were recently put in place at the property on the estate owned by Nicholas Johnston, a friend of former Prime Minister David Cameron.

“The word is that the couple will retreat to this rented home at the weekends while they wait to be awarded a Sandringham house,” claimed a source.

And while it may be in the Cotswalds, two-and-a-half hours away from London, it’s close to the country club where Meghan had her bachelorette party, so the area isn’t completely unfamiliar to her.

The Mail adds that it’s “practically next door” to David and Victoria Beckham‘s nine-bedroom home — one of its selling points.

“They chose it knowing the Beckhams would be next door,” added the insider. “And Harry, being a music fan, will be able to pop down the road to the Cornbury Festival in the summer.”

Sounds like the ideal place to ease into married life. And for Meghan, who has been a city girl up until this point in her adult life, a rural cottage in the English countryside sounds like a lovely change of pace. It’ll be a place for them to escape and unwind after appearances upon appearances. And, hey, if Becks or Posh decide to swing by, all the better.
