There are some rules to follow if you want Papa Tim to pay up when you’ve rolled up that golden rim. Samantha Burke of Clarenville, N.L. learned this the hard way. She rolled up the rim, and then tore it off when she saw a winning, $100 Tim Hortons gift card prize. It was at that moment she had broken the rules.
Wait, what? Yes, we know, we also have often torn off the winning lip, but according to rules and regulations on Timmies’ website, the company “reserves the right… to reject any potentially winning rim tab if the prize message is not presented in its entirety.”
Apparently, there was a pin number on the cup that needed to be presented with the winning message. Oh, boy. She mailed her tab in, and received a note that said she needed to submit the whole thing, pin number and all, in order to claim her prize.
Burke did what any person in her position would do at this point, and she took to Facebook to tell her story. Since last Friday, the post has been shared 18,000 times, and her local Tim Hortons has stepped up.
The manager has offered her a $100 gift card, and has apologized on behalf of the company. And Burke has accepted. Order has been restored in the land of Tim, but this just goes to show you, sometimes you do need to read the rules and regs, because otherwise you’re out a cool hundo.
And, oh yeah, just a reminder: save the whole cup. The whole cup and nothing but the cup.
