Anyone who has dealt with acne knows the painful toll it can take on a person, both physically and emotionally. Medication, face wash, diet, and exercise can sometimes help the issue, but anyone who has suffered from problematic skin knows that no matter what you try, sometimes acne just happens and there isn’t anything you can do about it. For Rocio Cervantes, the makeup artist has decided to embrace her acne and turn her insecurities into beautiful works of art.

Cervantes has built a social media following of more than 140,000 Instagram followers thanks to her stunning eyeshadow blending technique. Using bright colours to create a rainbow effect, Cervantes posts images and tutorial videos of her work, calling herself a Professional Olympic Blender. We agree. These looks deserve a medal.

In addition to her incredible eyeshadow technique, which earned Cervantes a brand partnership deal with Benefit Cosmetics, Rocio has also amassed a legion of followers thanks to her openness about her struggles with acne.

In August, Cervantes posted a picture of herself without makeup and spoke honestly about her difficult relationship with her skin, something many of us can relate to. Detailing the various treatments she’s tried over the past eight years, Cervantes wrote “I wish this was more talked about and I wish acne was normalized, so I hope by continuously showing myself, it comforts someone else going through the same.”

Hello! So I just wanted to say sorry for been so inactive if anyone watched my IG stories then you would know I’ve been dealing with a lot of breakouts that cause me to not be able to put on makeup for days or even weeks it’s very stressful, depressing and sad because I am so passionate about makeup and putting out content for y’all! yesterday I went to see my doctor and I’ll be seen a cognitive therapist, someone who can help me cope with picking at my face which is something I’ve struggled with due to my acne I’m also hoping this is the next step to getting on accutane cause at this point I’ve tried just about everything (please no recommendations lol) because when you’ve dealt with acne since you were 17 (I’m 25 now) you’ve tried everything I thought I would take y’all on my journey something like acne vlogs the depression, anxiety, stress, social anxiety, treatments and all that comes with dealing with acne I wish this was more talked about and I wish acne was normalized so I hope by continuously showing myself it comforts someone else going through the same anyways love y’all sorry this was so long! ❤️

Now Cervantes is embracing her acne in a beautiful way. Combining her trademark look that includes using star stickers with her rainbow blend eye shadow, Rocio applied stickers to her acne and then applied foundation. She then removed the stickers, effectively turning her face into a beautiful constellation.

Writing that the concept was one she had been thinking about for a while, Cervantes said the idea came out of frustration. “My acne hinders my ability to do anything. Last night I was thinking how it would be if I didn’t have acne what I would look like and afterwards. I was so ashamed of myself for thinking that because I am beautiful, so I hope anyone dealing with anything whether it be acne or not knows that they will get through.”
