Your contour is perfect, your cat-eye is on point and the glow up is undoubtedly real. But what good is it without that finishing powder or setting spray to seal in your handiwork? There’s nothing worse than perfectly applied makeup that’ll only be smeared and creased half an hour later, and lip colour that lasts longer on your coffee cup than on your own mouth.

That’s where Covergirl Outlast comes in, promising a face that’ll last through all the elements. What better way to test whether or not your foundation and lipstick will last you through a day at the office than in an indoor wind tunnel that simulates skydiving? Our style editor (full disclosure: me) did just that to see whether or not Covergirl Outlast makeup can live up to its claims of all-day wear.

First, celebrity makeup artist Veronica Chu walked us through why long-wear makeup should definitely be on your radar. In her presentation, Chu tells us that women touch their faces 47 times… per hour. That’s 400 times a day. The area we’re touching most? Our mouths and chins, which is probably why our lipstick rarely makes it past lunch.

The Covergirl Outlast All-Day collection aims to stay on our faces, regardless of whether or not we’re touching them 24/7. But does it work?

Before having our faces blasted by high speed winds, our makeup artist applied Covergirl Outlast All-Day Stay Fabulous Foundation, followed by the Outlast All-Day Soft Touch Concealer and Outlast All-Day Matte Finishing Powder. On our lips, she applied Outlast All-Day Custom Reds in Deep. Then this happened:

The wind was so strong and loud that ear plugs were required before “flight.”

Did the lipstick stay on? Yes. But in our opinion, the star of the show was the finishing powder, which actually repels water and sweat.

While other pressed powders would just absorb the water, this stuff had the droplets slide right off. So if you want to stay matte during a particularly warm marathon, this handy compact is for you. Just make sure to apply with a light hand, or things can get a bit chalky. The lipstick was also a winner–this is colour you definitely have to be committed to.

So if you’re looking for affordable makeup that’ll go the distance, consider the Outlast line. If it can make it through high speed wind velocities up to 300km/h, it might just make it through your next Tinder date. Maybe.
