Believe it or not, meeting someone who hates pizza is an extreme rarity. But meeting someone who practically lives for pizza is even more rare. Meet Phil Duncan, a British pizza lover now living in Seattle who’s trying to eat pizza from as many different countries as he can.
While we have no doubt in our minds that you love pizza, despite the grease and dairy, we’re pretty sure you wouldn’t make pizza the prime focus of your travels like Duncan does.
Duncan started posting photos of himself eating pizza in different countries and states a couple of years ago and has continued the trend ever since.
“At the same time Instagram was getting big, I was traveling a lot more often on longer trips. So automatically, I would upload general travel pics,” he said. “I noticed that my friends were liking my pizza photos a lot more than just general pics as they knew my love for pizza. So I just continued to showcase all the pizza I was eating in all the countries I have been to.”
So far, Duncan’s travelled to 30 countries, grabbing a slice of pizza (or an entire box of pizza) whenever and wherever he could in each place.
“I have always loved pizza. I have even eaten pizza for my Christmas dinner since I can remember. Last Christmas I was in Rio and managed to find a pizzeria which was open on Christmas day to keep my tradition alive. I was a really fussy eater growing up, so pizza was always the safest and best food to go to,” he explained. “Pizza is just a simple and cheap meal which is absolutely everywhere. When I first started spending more time in obscure countries or cities, I thought it was funny that you could always find pizza. Everywhere has its own little spin on what they think is good pizza and the variations are what make [it] fun to try new slices.”
Plus, the pizza in Costa Rica doesn’t look too bad…
But we’d be fools to not drool over the way that thin crust from Budapest.
And after travelling to all these different countries and states, Duncan revealed which place served up his favourite pizza: New York.
While we can’t predict which country Duncan will go to next, we know one thing’s for sure: he’ll be eating pizza.
