Would you pay 90 bucks an hour to cuddle a stranger? Apparently, some people would.
Hasnain Mirza, self proclaimed ‘guru cuddler’ and a worker at the intensive care unit at Royal Victoria Hospital in Montreal, founded a website called cuddleme.ca. You can actually use this website to pay $90 per hour of snuggling with a stranger.
Mirza was inspired to start his cuddle business after realizing that a lot of people in the hospital he worked at were being affected by their loneliness.
“There’s lots of loneliness in our big city,” Mirza said. “Specifically, I had two patients side-by-side in the intensive care unit. One had family there, one did not… And the patient that didn’t have any family was crying while hearing the people on the other side.” He goes on to explain how technology is also at fault for depriving the people of much-needed contact in person. (Isn’t it also ironic how technology can now help people have that in-person contact?)
Well Mirza doesn’t just talk the talk; he also walks the walk. He claims to have a 60-year-old client with a lot of social anxiety, and after using the cuddling service, Mirza explained that the client’s anxiety has improved dramatically.
Other part-time ‘cuddlers’ also work with Mirza to help make the world a better place, one cuddle at a time. And yes, cuddling or touching in a sexual way is absolutely forbidden by the company.
So if you find yourself feeling extra lonely one day, it could be worth splurging 90 bucks on that much-awaited cuddle session. Check out the video above to learn more.
