While many people would be running away from their ex if they saw them at an airport, the opposite could be said for Rachel Bilson and Adam Brody. The former stars of The O.C. embraced the reunion and gave the show’s fans the gift of their lives.

Bilson posted a photo of her and Brody with the caption, “Ran into my ol buddy from jfk to lax #californiaherewecome.” And with that, there hasn’t been a more amazing airport scene since the beginning and end of Love, Actually. Bilson and Brody dated for three years, during most of their O.C. run, and while they didn’t last, their characters did and — spoiler alert! — yes, Seth Cohen and Summer Roberts did end up together. Fans lost it over the post, while series creator Josh Schwartz joked, “Sorry don’t get the reference,” referring to the hashtag, a take on the chorus of the show’s theme song.

In case you never watched The O.C. (and if you haven’t, find it and binge it now), the show took an inside look at the lives of the teens of Orange County through the eyes of newcomer Ryan Atwood (Ben McKenzie). He quickly became a member of the Cohen family and was in town less than a day before learning all about Seth’s love for Summer. We were supposed to root for Ryan and Marissa (Mischa Barton), which admittedly many did, but there was something more alluring about the comic book-loving, video game-playing geek and his mission to land the ditzy popular bitch, after whom Seth even named his boat. And he eventually did. The unlikely couple became a fan favourite and despite not lasting IRL, seeing them together travelling across the country is the kick in the feels we all needed.

You can almost hear Death Cab for Cutie. And Modest Mouse. And The Killers. Or perhaps that’s the sound of our hearts bursting.

Considering their chance airport meeting and all the other reboots happening, perhaps it’s time to bring The O.C. back. Bilson admitted she wouldn’t hate it, telling PureWow, “It was such a great show and a great group. I’m still super close with [series creators] Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage. I would trust them with my life. So, anywhere they would go I would follow. Of course, I’d be open to it. It’s a very fond memory for me and something I’m super grateful for.”

As for where Summer — who transformed from spoiled brat to philanthropist by the end of the series — is now, she mused, “I would imagine that she’s had kids. I would also think that she’s fighting for something. Perhaps a cause, or maybe she’s a lawyer. She’d definitely have her hand in the philanthropy world. It’d be really interesting to see them as adults.” Agreed. And here’s hoping she’s still with Seth.

Rachel and Adam split in 2006. She moved on with Jumper co-star Hayden Christensen the following year, with whom she shares a daughter. Bilson and Christensen ended their relationship in 2017. Brody met future wife Leighton Meester on the set of The Oranges in 2010 and they made it official in 2014. They have a daughter.
