In a move that is sure to worry and even anger many, an Ottawa-based start-up company has launched an app called Punchtime that allows employers to track their employee’s every move. It knows exactly what time they arrive, how long they’re in the bathroom, and where they go for lunch. Sound like fun?

If your initial reaction is “oh hell no,” we totally get you. However, there is an upside to this form of technology. The app is also loaded with the capability to record time sheets, process payroll, and track expenses among other things, and for people who work in high-risk situations, like the ones featured in the video, the Geo-tracking feature can actually offer some piece of mind.

The service costs of $10 per month, per employee, and with the potential to save a company a lot of money we can see why employers are excited. But, do the benefits outweigh the invasion of privacy? We’ll have to wait and see. The app is currently being tested by select companies around the world.
