Nine-year-old Ken lives in the Philippines, where it is common to see stray animals roaming any given street at any given time. But instead of ignoring the plight of the dogs and cats, which most of us might do, Ken would often spend time with them, offering them food and dreaming of having a no-kill shelter for the animals. Turns out, dreams do come true.
After photos of Ken with three dogs — named Blackie, Brownie and White Puppy, of course — surfaced on the Internet, he was inundated with offers of help and people from all over the world began donating money.
“We got enough money to get the dogs I was feeding off the street, feed them high quality canned food, and provide them with veterinary care,” he wrote on his website, The Happy Animals Club, which also happens to be the name of their temporary shelter in their garage.
“They gained a LOT of weight, their open wounds healed, and their fur grew back,” Ken wrote. “They also learned not to be scared of humans.”
He plans on putting the dogs up for adoption. But what’s even better is that, thanks to the donations, Ken (and presumably his dad) signed a one-year lease for a space where he can continue his work.
Kind of amazing, right?
