Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and with 100 days to go before the 2016 Rio Summer Games, here comes an ad that will reach into your chest, grab on to your beating heart and twist until you cry, cry, cry. And then once it’s done kicking you right in the feels, you’ll be good to go grab your phone and call your mom. You can go do that now if you want, actually; we’ll wait…

P&G debuted its latest “Thank You, Mom” commercial and don’t be surprised if the tears start streaming. It shows four athletes from childhood to now, as they compete in the Rio Games, from growing up and working hard to getting where they are today.

Watching the moms protect and urge their kids — interspersed with present-day scenes of the athletes (none of whom are actual Olympians, FYI) performing at this elite, international level — reminds us of what it is to be a mother. Be it dealing with a child’s bullies, comforting a daughter after a car accident or calming a son during turbulence, it’s what moms do.

Yes, the kids busted their butt to become the champions they are now but it’s their moms’ encouragement that helped that much more to get them to where they are now. Those knowing looks and fist pumps and reassuring words might seem like little things, but it’s the little things that mean so much.
