Becoming a mom or dad is never easy, so we’ll take any helpful gadget that promises to make parenting a little bit more manageable. But with so many baby products available, it can get a little overwhelming deciding what newfangled gizmo is actually worth dropping your cold hard cash on. The mamaRoo by 4moms is one of those things. What exactly is it, you ask? It’s the ultimate baby chair that can mimic the natural motions of parents.

There are five settings in total, including kangaroo, tree swing, rock-a-bye and wave. While some settings actually provide an environment that is similar to being in utero, the star of the show is the car ride movement — that’s right — no more midnight drives to put your little one to sleep. This seat will do that for you, no jacket or actual driving required. As for sound, not only does it play four soothing noises, the mamaRoo is also Bluetooth enabled, so can play all of baby’s fave tunes. (The speakers are admittedly not going to replace your current sound system, but if you’re buying an infant seat for high-quality rich vocal reverb and booming bass, you might be looking in the wrong place.)

What else makes the mamaRoo so special? It’s used in nearly 375 hospitals across the United States, and is especially soothing for preemies as well as babies diagnosed with opiod withdrawal. According to the National Perinatal Association (NPA), these babies “typically experience body shakes, seizures, fussiness, poor feeding and breathing problems, among other symptoms, after being born.” A study, conducted by the NPA and 4moms, found that after spending 30 minutes in the mamaRoo, babies became more physiologically stable and had a lower heart and respiratory rates. They were assessed by their nurses to be in a calmer behavioural state as well, which is great news for parents of fussier wee ones.

The chair can grow with your baby too. From the tiniest preemies to sweet bigger babes, the seat can accommodate your kiddo till they reach 25 lbs. Need a little Netflix break? Pop your loved one into this seat beside you and they can become your new binging buddy. Okay, maybe not. But it’s worth a shot.
