For such a tiny thing, it sure is commanding a lot of attention. So dust off your binoculars, because you’re going to need them for the latest sensation to come out of Paris Fashion Week.

The Mini Le Chiquito bag by French house Jacquemus, measuring an astoundingly teeny 5.2cm (2in) small, made its catwalk debut, creating quite the frenzy amongst fans and critics alike.

Captioning a close up of the micro handbag, “Bag for a ring? Or?”, the fashion house invited fans to imagine what may possibly fit in the miniscule accessory. Forget about actual necessities like a credit card, house keys, or your cell phone – you’d be lucky if you can squeeze in an emergency breath mint. Yep, that’s just what we look for in our handbags… and exactly the kind of impractical absurdity we’ve come to expect from the high fashion world. Social media users, as ever, did not hold back in their mocking dismissiveness:

And turns out, the Mini’s one of a clan, because the fractionally larger Le Chiquito bag, which is still diminutive in size, came before it, at a (relatively) spacious-sounding 12cm (4in) by 6cm (2.5in). Priced at $665, it may just hold a credit card or two, which makes it possibly functional, but still well within the realm of ridiculous.

Founded by French designer Simon Porte Jacquemus, this isn’t the brand’s first tiny bag. The Chiquita (one up from the Le Chiquito) caused quite the sensation, and has been spotted on a number of high-profile celebs, including Beyoncé, Priyanka Chopra, and Rihanna. But if the new Mini bag is anything like as popular, would we even be able to tell without a microscope? It’s anyone’s guess.

And believe it or not, this isn’t the brand’s first foray into playing with proportions. In fact, they’ve previously garnered attention for their generously oversized totes and straw sunhats.

Tiny or oversized, one thing’s for sure – they know how to get people talking.
