With the documentary on Queen Elizabeth, Our Queen At 90, set to air this weekend in the U.K., more snippets of royal interviews are being released. But the one we’re all looking out for is Duchess Kate‘s first solo interview, in which she talks about her royal grandmum-in-law. She already revealed that George calls her Gan-Gan, but she’s divulging even more.
Kate opens up about her first Christmas with the royals and admits she stressed a little about what to bring her in-laws. It would be considered poor form if she didn’t bring a gift but at the same time, they’re royalty. What do you get someone who has everything? Hmm, why not something homemade?
“I can remember being at Sandringham, for the first time, at Christmas,” Kate reveals, according to The Telegraph. “And I was worried what to give the Queen as her Christmas present. I was thinking, ‘Gosh, what should I give her?'”
And then it hit her. “I thought back to what would I give my own grandparents. And I thought, ‘I’ll make her something.’ Which could have gone horribly wrong,” she says, before revealing, “But I decided to make my granny’s recipe of chutney.”
Thankfully, Kate’s gift was a hit.
“I was slightly worried about it, but I noticed the next day that it was on the table,” she explains. “I think such a simple gesture went such a long way for me and I’ve noticed since she’s done that on lots of occasions and I think it just shows her thoughtfulness, really, and her care in looking after everybody.”
Kind of perfect, right? Those are the kinds of tidbits we want to know. Now we want the recipe!
While Kate doesn’t elaborate on what kind of chutney she made, it’s safe to assume that the Middleton family’s Granny Marrow Chutney, which her sister Pippa Middleton wrote about in her book, Celebrate, is what we’re looking for. It reportedly takes hours to prepare so make it only for the most special people in your life. Or those you’re trying to impress.
