A 27-year-old make-up artist lead her Instagram followers (and now the rest of us) on something of a bizarre #beauty journey recently, posting a series of photos of her applying a full face of make-up…WHILE GIVING BIRTH!

Alaha Majid (@makeupbyalaha) is a a make-up artist from New York, who, apparently, is uncompromising with her personal beauty routine.

The newborn will have a pretty good play-by-play of her early days. Here’s how she came into the world, starting from within the womb.

Sofia, Sofia, Sofia!! Why are you already claiming the “fashionably late” approach to life?? haha. I was due over a week ago! It’s all good though, she’s beautifully healthy and everything looks great (as per my doctor). She’ll make her entrance when she’s ready and I’ll be here patiently waiting. ❤️❤️❤️ I know this chapter of my life is almost over but I can’t wait for the next chapter to begin INSHALLAH (God willing). I enjoyed being pregnant more than anything in the world, but at the same time, I must say, I have never been so self-conscious in my life… I feel like a baby whale lol. Mostly because my face changed (which I’m told is normal when you’re having a girl). My nose, lips, cheeks, everything just looks so… Exaggerated!! hahaha. It’s okay though, it will all be worth it in a few days inshallah. Simply because the joy of having a baby is greater than anything in the world! ❤️ I can’t wait to meet my little angel! I can’t wait to hold her in my arms and just stare at her. Babies really are the greatest miracles of life and I am so blessed to be able to experience this. They say that whatever you pray for during labor, God will grant it to you and there is so much that I will pray for like health and happiness for everyone I love and care about, but I will also pray for all those beautiful women out there who are trying to conceive but can’t, to be able to become mommy’s in the near future and for all the mommy’s and daddy’s who are expecting a child soon, to be blessed with beautiful, healthy, happy babies! Now, that being said… Once this baby is out, I can’t wait to be able to hit the gym as hard as I want and to be able to run, jump, do cartwheels and all the things I was banned from doing for the past 9.5 months! Haha! Most importantly, I can’t wait to start posting makeup looks more regularly once I have my normal face back! 😂😂😂😂 I just ask that you all keep me in your prayers as I get closer and closer to going into labor! Love you all! And for all those asking when Sofia is arriving, I promise to let you all know the minute she is born INSHALLAH! Love you guys, and as always, thank you for your never-ending support! 💖

Isn’t Mom lovely? Then she went to the hospital and applied a few of the essentials (foundation, fake lashes, lipsticks, etc.) between contractions.

Three weeks ago at this time I was finishing up my makeup and getting ready for my princess to make her appearance. Yes, I was doing my makeup while I was in labor! 😂😂😂 I was pausing during contractions and picking up where I left off once the contractions passed. I only packed some of my favorite products in my hospital bag… @morphebrushes 35O eyeshadow palette @marcbeauty remarcable foundation @hudabeauty @shophudabeauty lashes in “sophia” @anastasiabeverlyhills contour kit @mikasabeauty brushes and holder @royallangnickel MODA brushes @benefitcosmetics stay don’t stray eyeshadow palette @gerardcosmetics brow bar to go @anastasiabeverlyhills dipbrow pomade @brian_champagne hydraplex @doseofcolors liquid lipsticks @jeffreestar @jeffreestarcosmetics velour liquid lipsticks And a few other products. I can’t believe how fast time flies! It’s already been three weeks! 😭😭😭

And when things got to be too much for Mom, Dad was there to help out.

Regardless of whether it was a distraction method to help deal with the pain, or she just really wanted to look her best for her baby, she did end up looking look pretty great for the birthing photos.

We would like to take a second to welcome our precious angel, Sofia Alaya Karimi, into the world. Baby Sofia was born two nights ago, on February 15, 2016 at 6:19pm weighing 8lbs 13oz and a height of 21.5 inches. Mash’allah! Both of us are doing well Alhamdullilah. She has only been a part of our lives for two days and I can’t even remember what life was like before her. She has changed our lives in ways we never thought were possible and has given us the most beautiful outlook on life. How could a little human who we have only known for 48 hours, have so much impact on our lives? Both hubby and I are so in love with her that we stare at her for hours as our hearts fill with joy, and our eyes fill with tears trying to understand how we became so lucky to be chosen as her parents. Subhanallah, Mash’allah, Alhamdullilah, times a million for everything God has blessed us with! I know many people are asking for pics, and I’m sorry but her father and I have decided to keep her beautiful face private for some time to keep her all to ourselves a little while longer and keep her away from evil eyes or Nazar (it’s a cultural/religious thing and I hope you all understand). Family and friends are more than welcome to reach out and come visit once we are settled in and well-adjusted. Thank you to all those who sent flowers, texts, emails, calls, etc. I haven’t been able to get back to everyone individually but I will as soon as I can. Now many of you are probably wondering about this picture, LOL! It was taken the minute she was first handed to me after I delivered her, look at her little head in my palm. Yes, I went full glam lol and I’ll post more pics later of me doing my makeup DURING Labor and pausing for the severe contractions lol. And yes, I wore my @hudabeauty @shophudabeauty mink lashes in “SOPHIA” since it was appropriate lol. I had a natural birth alhamdullilah so it was tough, but I’m lucky enough to have been able to experience it firsthand and am so grateful. I prayed for all of the women who are trying to conceive to get to experience this beautiful feeling as well inshallah! Again, thank you all for the sweet messages, wishes, and love! God bless!

Now, with the birth a few weeks behind her, it’s back to the daily grind of posting fashionable pictures of herself…only now she’s got a great new accessory.

Strolling with the love of my life. ❤️

The attention she’s received for this beauty technique has us wondering: is this the beginning of a new trend? In her profile, she encourages others to use her hashtag, #makeupbyalaha, the feed for which we fully expect to be overrun with birthing photos, make-up or not.
