Back in January 2012, Melissa Dohme‘s life was changed forever when she was stabbed 32 times in the face and neck by her ex-boyfriend.
But after living through a nightmare no one should ever have to face, Dohme’s dreams are coming true. Because the 23-year-old just got the sweetest proposal ever — from the first responder who helped save her life.
Dohme and Cameron Hill began dating a little over two years ago. After her recovery, Dohme has made it her mission to be a domestic violence advocate in her hometown of Tampa, Fla., and she has become so widely known, the Tampa Bay Rays recently invited her to throw the first pitch for a game.
It all went down this week, and it was Hill who came out on to the field and gave her a ball to throw. And on the ball was written, “Will you marry me?” And of course she said yes.
Dohme took to Facebook to share her joy…
… and the Rays shared photos of Monday’s romantic events.
A year after her horrific attack, Dohme said, “If you believe there’s good in the world then you’ll find it.” She sure did. Congrats to the beautiful couple.
