The Oscars this years are, well, very white. There is no way to not notice this, because there isn’t a single person of colour nominated for any of the major awards. It’s something people very much noticed, like almost immediately, and that’s why #OscarsSoWhite is a trending hashtag for a second year.

It’s gotten to a point where Jada Pinkett Smith and Spike Lee are boycotting the annual awards show.

Taking a stand in this case is obviously super-important, which is why we love Franchesca Leigh‘s nail polish tutorial that perfectly explains what’s going on at the Oscars in 2016. Like, she actually paints on her criticism, and does it in a remarkably humorous and thoughtful way. She’s not being overtly antagonistic, she is simply laying out the facts, and the facts are the most important here.

In the case of the directors this year, she says, “I’m using clear, because clearly women aren’t good directors. I’m gonna lay it on real thick, kind of like the excuses…” She’s speaking to the fact that there has only been one female director who has ever won an Oscar.

And there are a lot of gems. So, you should totally watch the video above.
