They say imitation is the highest form of flattery, but we’re not sure it’s meant to be taken literally at face value (sorry… we couldn’t help it).
In a bid to more closely resemble her idol, the Duchess of Sussex Meghan Markle, a 30-year-old from Houston, Texas has undergone no fewer than eight cosmetic surgical procedures to complete a physical transformation. Tanya Ricardo, a mother of one who works as a land technician, opened up on the motivation behind the surgery, calling the Duchess “a very, very graceful woman,” adding, “I want what she has that I don’t.” The procedures included liposuction under her chin and on her stomach, changes to her hips and lower back, cheek contouring and filler, breast implants, and a Brazilian butt lift.
Ricardo said she always believed she carried a resemblance to the Duchess, noting, “We both have dark hair, big brown eyes and a structured fine nose,” but wanted to emphasize it more permanently with the help of surgery. “Now that I had had a couple of surgeries on my face, it accentuates her look on me even more… I see it in the shape of my face,” she said, adding that people noting the similarity made her feel she’d “accomplished” her mission. Yikes.
For comparison, here’s a look at Ricardo before the surgery..
Having grown up on the skinnier side, and subjected to bullying for her leaner frame, Ricardo now hopes the addition of curves will put an end to the negative comments. “I feel like a different person and happy, hopefully the negative comments will stop and won’t affect me,” she said, adding, “I felt like I never had curves when I was young so it’s great… I can’t wait to be able to hit the gym with extra weight in the right places.” She even shared her hopes of following in Markle’s romantic footsteps, quipping she’d soon “be good to marry another Prince.”
Each to their own, but it’s somewhat sad (and surely, the bullying wouldn’t have helped) to see she wasn’t able embrace her natural, undeniable beauty. And if we’re being completely honest, we’re not necessarily seeing a huge difference. Resemblance to Meghan or no, Ricardo is her own woman, and we hope she starts feeling that inside, as well as out.
But it seems like when people have set themselves a beauty ideal, there’s nothing they won’t do to transform themselves physically. In fact, Ricardo isn’t even the first woman this year to take such drastic steps and imitate everyone’s favourite Duchess. Back in February, 36-year-old Xochytl Greer, also a Houston native, spent over $30,000 in an attempt to more closely look like Markle. Again, it’s not exactly noticeable. But hey, if these are steps on a person’s journey to self-acceptance (which surely is the goal)… then we’ll say no more.
